Rev. Brenda Girton-Mitchell has been blessed with many spiritual gifts and has attained laudable academic credentials as a teacher, lawyer and preacher. “Rev. Brenda,” as she is affectionately known at Metropolitan Baptist Church symbolizes, the steward in the parable of the talents found in Gospel according to Matthew 25:14-21. She graciously and consistently manifests her calling in her ability to use and multiply the talents entrusted to her by God to teach, inspire, motivate and empower others to do likewise.
Specifically, I have known Reverend Girton-Mitchell in a variety of capacities. I have known Rev. Brenda practically all of my adult life and I am 62 years young. We have literally grown up together, in stature, in maturity and spiritually. She is not only one of my closest and dearest friends, I consider her my sister, confidant and one of my spiritual advisors. When I was at a crossroad in my servant-hood at my local congregation I called her. After talking her words to me were “Why not you.” I suppose I wanted the serve in the position but doubted my worthiness, not focusing on the responsibilities and surely did not consider that my Pastor had faith and trusted me enough to consider me. So I have learned from Rev. Brenda when the Lord calls me to a task — “why not me” Be obedient and go for it. I thank her for enlightening me in many areas of my life and in my Christian journey. I could go on and on but the Golden Girls reunion which Rev Brenda is a part of has taken place for 25 years has become to me, more like a retreat and a spiritual renewal and a revival of sisterhood.
